  • The Military Veterans Coalition of Indiana – mission is to promote the needs of the military community of Indiana including active, National Guard, Reserve, retirees and their families. We will encourage the Indiana Government to enact legislation recognizing the honor brought to the state and nation by their service. This will be communicated through personal contact, the media and website to the government representatives of Indiana and other agencies as deemed necessary. Please go to TMVCI website to subscribe so you too may stay informed and help act to take better care of our Veterans in Indiana. When it comes to ranking each state on who takes care of their Veterans best our state is ranked 51st out of the 50 states including the District of Columbia, that is dead last!!

  • So You Want A Service Dog? Surf Dog Ricochet will explore 67 questions about wanting to have a PTSD Service Dog. So if you are thinking about one, come here and explore the answers to these questions first.
  • Pets Healing Vets – Pairing Hoosier Veterans with emotional support pets. This is facilitated and funded by the Humane Society of Hamilton County and is the only one in the state of Indiana. Visit their website to fill out the online application. They are reviewed weekly and you will be contacted by an HSHC team member to discuss what is next. Questions, call 317-219-4630.
  • America’s Vet Dogs – To help those who have served our country honorably live with dignity and independence. The Veteran’s K-9 Corps is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded by the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and serves the needs of disabled veterans and active duty personnel. Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation has provided guide dogs and training at no cost to people who are blind or visually impaired, including veterans.
  • WAGS 4 WARRIORS Mission is to unite Veterans, who are returning home from war suffering from PTSD or TBI, with an appropriate dog and to provide all of the training, equipment and support for the dog to become the Veterans service dog at NO COST to the Veteran. The ultimate goal is for the service dog to take away the struggle the Veterans are faced with everyday.
  • While we are on dogs – Dog Training Near You is dedicated to providing a directory of dog training locations across the United States, all sorted and organized by city and state. We do this to help you find the best dog trainer site near your location and help you take the next step towards a well-behaved family friend.   • Bugles Across America – NFP was founded in 2000 by Tom  Day, when Congress passed legislation stating that Veterans have a right to at least 2 uniformed military people to fold the flag and play taps on a CD player. Bugles Across America was founded to take it a step further. In recognition of the service these Veterans have provided to their country, we felt that every Veteran deserved a live rendition of taps played by a live Bugler. To this end, we are actively seeking volunteers to provide this valuable service to Veterans and their families.
  • Veterans Support Council of Marion County – VSCMC supports Veterans events and special programs to help better serve our Veterans in Marion and surrounding counties. They raise funds and plan the events for the Mayors Advisory Council on Veterans – MACV. The VSCMC website has many links to assist our Veterans and they list local Veteran events. Their Resources page is continually growing with important links to all things concerning Veterans/Military. Check them out!!
  • Home City.com Homes for Vets guide is intended to help veterans who are struggling get the help they deserve. From help with homelessness to something as simple as a partner animal to help alleviate emotional trauma, these organizations, groups and services will support todays vets so they can enjoy a full, thriving and healthy civilian life. Your local VA office is one critical place to look and from which to start, but there are lots of other options listed here that are available to give you further support wherever you need it most.
  • Computer Viruses/Cybersecurity are growing and spreading every day and most everyone of us Veterans have at least one computer we need to protect. The following links will help you better understand what a computer virus is and how to protect yourself from being infected.

  • The Movie Guide for Veterans – this guide lists movies with the Veteran in mind. If you want to have a movie night, this is the ultimate list….
  • The IDVA Event Sponsor Program (ESP) – is dedicated to providing sponsorship dollars for your company / group to host a Veteran-oriented event here in the the state of Indiana. The ESP will provide up to $500 in sponsorship money for an event the applicant is hosting. The goal is to provide funds to ensure a local non-profit can host their event or to enable them to enhance their event. The organization must have an established plan, committee and mission, one that focuses on bringing services, resources and/or benefits to Indiana’s Veteran community. IDVA will provide their resources to help advertise your event and would like to have the opportunity to attend the event to promote state and federal veteran benefits and the statewide network of County Veteran Service Officers (CVSO). Any non-profit can apply for the ESP. The specific event associated with the application must be honoring or celebrating the Indiana Veteran community. Complete the application on this site to apply for $500.00.

 

Indy Honor FlightThere is no better feeling than to help the Indy Honor Flight system bring joy to our Veterans as they fly them to Washington, DC to visit their Memorials. Whether it’s through volunteering to help in the process or donating money or even better yet to become a Guardian for a Veteran on his wonderful journey. It is one you will never ever forget!!

If anyone is looking to make a difference in the life of a Veteran, there is no better time or organization to donate to than the Indy Honor Flight. When you hear a 90 plus year old Veteran say, “This was the best day of my life”, you know they are doing it right. The Honor Flight takes our WWII, Korean & Vietnam Veterans to Washington D.C. for one day, a very long day, to see their Memorials and Monuments. We are loosing our War Veterans as each day passes so again, there is no better time to make that donation. For each Veteran who is transported to DC there is a guardian who is at their side for each and every moment of their day. So please go to their website and see all the good that they do for our Heroes,,,, better yet, sign up and be a guardian for a Veteran because it will be the best day of your life also. I know, I have done it twice!!
