Veterans Affairs Benefits, Compensation And the Veterans Health Administration

These sites deal with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Remember to always work with your County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) or your American Legion/VFW Posts service officer/advocate as they will assist you in properly filling out and filing your paperwork.

Federal VA Regional Office In Indianapolis

  • The Federal VA Regional Office in Indianapolis – is open to the public for in-person interviews between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. Walk-ins accepted. Face masks not required but subject to CDC recommendations. Veterans requesting benefits appointments should call (317) 916-3736 to schedule an appointment. Chapter 31 participants should contact their Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to schedule an appointment . New applicants to the program can call (317) 916-3740 for additional information or you may schedule an appointment on the Visitor Engagement Reporting Application (VERA) website.

  • VA Veterans Benefits Guide – The VA partnered with Stars and Stripes to create a special edition insert Guide which highlights VA Benefits and services for transitioning service members and their families.
  • A Guide to Veterans Benefits – This guide is intended to be a quick reference to the available benefits vs the complexity of the VA.gov website. Our aim was to make it easy to quickly understand what is available and point Veterans in the proper direction for additional help.
  • “HOW CAN I HELP YOU?” – This is a VA Resource Guide with numbers and internet links to all VA Departments, Benefits and Programs to answer your questions and guide you through the VA system.
  • National Resource Directory, a website that provides access for Wounded Warriors, Service Members, Veterans, their families and caregivers to services and resources that support them at the national, state and local levels on recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.   • Explore VA – Home page to access and manage your VA Benefits and health care.
  • Elderly Veterans Benefits – As Veterans age the Department of Veterans affairs (VA) will provide benefits and services that will address a variety of issues including the changing health risks they face, as well as financial challenges through the VA benefits and health services.
  • Aid & Attendance Pension – Is additional monetary payment for those Veterans and Survivors who require in-home aid and attendance to survive. This site is the VA Benefits page which breaks down this benefit as compared to Basic and Housebound.
  • Veteran Aid is a website that will assist in understanding the Aid & Attendance Pension and they will guide you through the process of applying for it.
  • Veterans Benefits Administration Home Page links to benefits from A through Z Transition, Compensation, Pension, Education/Training, Employment/Vocational Rehab, Home Loans, Life Insurance, Transition and many more links.
  • VA Web Automated Reference Manual System – The Web Automated Reference Manual System (WARMS) includes manuals, directives, handbooks, Title 38 Code of Federal Regulations and more. The publications provide information about the Department of Veterans Affairs benefits policies.
  • Disability Calculator is a calculator for Veterans that may help determine how much disability they may be owed by the VA based on their injuries. It is a law firms website and based on their findings in the claims they have filed and researched.
  • Post 9/11 Transition and Case Management – If you are transitioning out of the Military, visit this page to be sure you are receiving the assistance needed in achieving your health and wellness goals.
  • Dept of VA Center for Women Veterans – Welcome all women Veterans, family members, caregivers, and advocates! The Center for Women Veterans (CWV) mission is to monitor and coordinate VA’s administration of health care, benefits, services, and programs for women Veterans. We have links to many helpful sites for our Women Veterans within the VA.
  • Women Veteran Resources – National Veteran Council’s Women Veteran Resources program connects women veterans with appropriate resources to help them transition to civilian life after leaving the military, and to provide them with resources and tools to help transition to civilian life and continue to be leaders in their communities.
  • Department of VA Vet Centers – Vet centers are community based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services. We are people in the VA who welcome home War Veterans with honor by providing quality readjustment counseling for them and their families in a caring manner. The Vet Center also has a Combat Call Center 877-WAR-VETS – it is an around the clock confidential call center where combat Veterans and their families can call to talk about their military experience or any other issue they are facing in their readjustment to civilian life. The staff is comprised of combat Veterans from several eras as well as family members of combat Veterans. We have centers all across the USA.
  • Department of VA/DOD eBenefits – is your gateway to electronically control your VA benefits information – the VA is in the process of moving links to the VA.gov page so come here to see where to find what features are where. Click on the “+” for each of the listed items to see where to locate the info. Then on the top tool bar click on LEARN, APPLY, or MANAGE to control your benefits/claims. You must be enrolled in the VA system to control your profiles and claims.

Department of Veterans Health Administration (VHA)

  • Department of Veterans Health Administration – Home page for the VHA with health care resources for Veterans, family members and care givers. On the top tool bar are links to “VA Benefits and Health Care”, “About VA” and “Find a VA Location”. In the gray column on the left under Health Benefits are links to detailed information about how to apply for VHA health services, cost of care, accessing VA health care and Non-VA care.
  • Dept of VA Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service – Provides comprehensive support to optimize health and independence of the Veteran by being the premier source of prosthetic and orthotic services, sensory aids, medical equipment and support services for Veterans.
  • My HealtheVet – offers you links and tools to help you partner with your VA health care team, so together you may work to manage your health. Here you may find useful resources when you need them for Pharmacy, Appointments, Messages and Health Records.

Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) and Local Links

  • Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) Here you will find many local resources in Indiana covering Employment, Education, Benefits, County Veteran Service Officers and support services. There are many State Benefits our Veterans get for being in Indiana so look this site over carefully.
  • The Military Family Relief Fund is designed to assist Indiana veterans and their legal dependents that are experiencing financial hardship. This emergency grant may be used for needs such as housing, utilities, food, medical services, basic transportation (car payments, insurance, and basic emergency car repair) which have become difficult to afford.
  • Office of Indiana Veteran Services – Connecting our Veterans to national and local resources. From this site you may reach out to the Mayor’s office or reach the CVSO’s in Marion County and other local Service organizations.
  • Family Social Services Administration – FSSA was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1991 to consolidate and better integrate the delivery of human services by state government. FSSA is a health care and social services funding agency for all Hoosiers. The FSSA’s mission is to compassionately serve Hoosiers of all ages and connect them with social services, health care and their communities.
